Our Notes:

On our way to Houston for a Thanksgiving trip to visit some family, we noticed a sign on I-45 near Centerville for Fort Boggy State Park. This one had not been on our radar before, so we pulled it up online and saw it had about three miles of hiking trails. We thought that it would be a perfect stop on our way back home before heading back into the work week.

It was a cold late morning on a Sunday when we pulled into the park, which was just a short drive off the interstate. The first thing we noticed was that there was hardly anyone there. We checked into the extremely small headquarters and drove the very short road toward the back of the park where the lake and trails were located. The lake is very small but very beautiful with what looked like a lot of opportunities for fishing, swimming, and boating in the warmer season.

We parked and began our hike on the Campbell Trail, which was right at about 2 miles through some very tall and stately looking white oak trees. This trail runs you past the primitive campsites, which are all very nice with a picnic table and fire ring.

After this trail we crossed the street and went to the Lake Trail, which was even prettier than the Campbell trail as it skirted the lake. This one was about 1.5 miles in length. We enjoyed both hikes as they were easy and peaceful for a quiet Sunday. It was also a nice place to stop between Houston and Dallas to stretch your legs and enjoy some nature or have a picnic. It is definitely one of the smallest state parks we have visited, but a nice one.

Check! Another one marked off the list!
